GalaCAD

Rack Engineering and Production Workspace

Overview

GalaCAD is a complete storage-rack engineering workspace: you model the physical rack, run a static analysis, review every member against capacity and buckling, and take the production quantities off the same coordinated model.

The analysis runs on OpenSees, the open-source finite element framework used in earthquake engineering research. Member screening follows allowable-stress checks together with an EN 1993-1-1 flexural buckling screen, so the numbers you report come from a documented basis rather than a black box.

Because the geometry, the analysis and the production schedule share one model, a change to a bay width or a beam section flows straight through to the cut list, the stock purchase and the engineering report.

What it does
  • Rack wizard — adjustable pallet, double deep, drive-in and light duty shelving in six guided steps.
  • Grid and free drawing — define X, Y and Z axes, then snap members to the intersections or draw by hand.
  • Section designer — 677-section catalogue, parametric templates and a CAD canvas for cold-formed thin-wall sections.
  • Connections — rigid, pinned or semi-rigid beam ends with a tested rotational stiffness Kh.
  • Static analysis — linear and P-Delta cases, load combinations, envelopes and a six-degree-of-freedom equilibrium audit.
  • Member review — elastic utilization, flexural buckling, pass/fail colouring and a section advisor that finds the lightest passing section.
  • Production centre — cut list, stock purchase and waste, fasteners, packing, bay totals and revision comparison.
  • Reporting — a seven-section engineering report with model views, figures and a model fingerprint, plus XLSX, CSV and DXF exports.
Engineering basis and scope

GalaCAD reports an elastic static analysis with an allowable-stress member screen and an EN 1993-1-1 flexural buckling screen about the member local axes. Member actions are recovered at 101 stations along each element and the reported envelopes are the largest absolute values over those stations.

The screens do not cover local, distortional or lateral-torsional buckling, beam-column moment interaction per a design code, connection or base-plate capacity, anchor design, foundation design, fatigue, fire or seismic detailing. Perforated rack uprights require qualified effective section properties and engineer-verified effective lengths. The engineer of record remains responsible for the input model, the load definitions and the applicability of the results.

Units and interoperability

Five display unit systems: kgf-cm, kgf-m, N-mm, N-m and kN-m. Models are saved as a single .galacad.json file and can be reopened later.

Production data exports to XLSX, CSV and DXF; the engineering report and the production report are produced as PDF.
